How to: Unlock your AT&T iPhone at home

11 April 2012 2,821 views No Comment

Family, friends, Little League mom and dads? Good to see ya! Yet another upselling “ya want fries with that” retail associate? Thanks, but I’ll pass. Unlock your out-of-contract AT&T iPhone from the comfort and relative safety of your man cave or girl grotto, respectively.

Retail, huh, yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing

Say it again, y’all…

To unlock your out-of-contract AT&T iPhone tied to an account in good standing, please first sit your butt down and get comfy. Then you’ll need to get and write down your iPhone’s IMEI number (Settings > General > About).

Next, log into your account on AT&T’s wireless site.

Some folks are saying you can request an unlock via AT&T’s Wireless Support Chat. Others report that you will have to call AT&T Wireless customer support to request an unlock.

Once you receive the unlock confirmation, you’ll need to follow these steps:

1. Open iTunes and verify Internet connectivity
2. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable
3. Backup iPhone to computer
4. Restore iPhone from computer
4. After restoring, iPhone will be unlocked.

And, that should be that…

How’d it go for you?
