Sprint puts out LTE data hog welcome mat
The carrier’s LTE network is virtually nonexistent, yet Sprint is promising unlimited LTE data to any and all comers. The company hasn’t said what their pricing will be, but the mere offer is turning heads.
The lads at the appropriately named Tech Hog noticed the following in Sprint’s marketing spin for a new Android smartphone they plan to offer:
LG Viper pairs perfectly with our unlimited data plans to bring customers the benefit of new technology, including our upcoming 4G LTE capabilities at a great price. This smartphone is packed with the tools our customers need to stay connected. Best of all, customers can feel good about owning LG Viper because of its robust list of eco-friendly features
The quote is attributed to Sprint vice president of Product Development David Owens and Tech Hog dutifully followed up to ask if the obvious. To whit Owens replied, “You are correct, LG Viper 4G LTE will be available on Sprint’s network featuring unlimited data.”
Which isn’t exactly an ironclad promise, but let’s run with it anyway.
The carrier has said its deal with Apple means the LTE iPhone, which is expected later this year, will be available on their network. That said, Sprint doesn’t have an LTE network right now but plans a limited six-city rollout — Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio — this year with nationwide coverage by the end of 2013 or early 2014.
Nevertheless, it would seem however much Sprint LTE network there is or will be, you can have all the MOAR you want (and get) — no cap, no overage charges and no throttling…
