Competition is a good thing and our friends at Apple and Adobe are definitely going at with Aperture and Lightroom, respectively. That said, in the ongoing application and Camera RAW update back and forth, Adobe takes a turn, releasing fresh code.

First off, there’s Lightroom 4.1 and, in addition to camera RAW support for a couple dozen new cameras, the headline feature is improved HDR image processing:

• The ability to process HDR TIFF files (16, 24 or 32-bit TIFF files)
• Additional Color Fringing corrections to help address chromatic aberration
• Save photobooks created in the Book Module to JPEG
• Publishing photos to Adobe Revel is now accessible via a Publish plugin
• Additional camera support for several new cameras including the Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Fujifilm X-Pro1, Nikon D800, and Olympus OM-D E-M5 (full new camera list below)
• Corrections for issues introduced in previous versions of Lightroom

With that out of the way, if you’re a Photoshop user, you will also want to grab Camera Raw 7.1 Update (baked into Lightroom), which replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Creative Suite 6, Photoshop CS6. Support for the following cameras has been added in this update: Canon EOS 1D X, Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EOS 60Da, Canon PowerShot G1 X, Canon PowerShot S100V, Fuji X-Pro1, Fuji FinePix F505EXR, Fuji FinePix F605EXR, Fuji FinePix F770EXR, Fuji FinePix F775EXR, Fuji FinePix HS30EXR, Fuji FinePix HS33EXR, Fuji FinePix X-S1, Leaf Credo 80, Leica M Monochrome, Leica X2, Nikon D3200, Nikon D4, Nikon D800, Nikon D800E, Olympus E-M5, Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5, Pentax K-01, Samsung NX20, Samsung NX210, Samsung NX1000, Sony Alpha NEX-F3, Sony Alpha NEX-VG20, Sony Alpha SLT-A37, Sony SLT-A57
