D2X-XL: An OpenGL version of Descent 2

Classic games have die-hard fans. Over the years, these folks have revived a range of game franchises, like Marathon and Doom, just for the joy of it. Although the D2X-XL Project, which has created an OpenGL port of Descent 2, has been at work for years, this is the first I’ve heard of them.
That said, D2X-XL v1.16.4 is now available and ready for download. However, as if oft the case with these revivals, there is a quid pro quo.
“You are responsible yourself for finding a working copy of the Descent data. It works with the PC data available on www.GoG.com though, but only on Mac OS X 10.5 up,” says the developer in a MacUpdate comment.
So go to GoG and get the PC version of Descent 2 for $5.99, which has the required data files…
