N.O.V.A. 3 pushes the mobile FPS envelope

The future of gaming isn’t in doubt, though your console will probably get a bit dustier after trying Gameloft’s highly anticipated (clip below the fold) third generation and, so far, very well received third-installment of its first person shooter, N.O.V.A. 3.
To get in the game, you will need an iPhone 3GS (or newer), iPod touch (third or fourth generation), or any iPad running iOS 4.0 and up to play. However, although the required specs aren’t particularly high, N.O.V.A. 3′s girth measured in gigabytes is a drive busting 1.57GB, which is about one-quarter of an otherwise bare 8GB iPod touch’s storage capacity.
Those of you with an Apple TV will be happy to know that N.O.V.A. 3 is AirPlay compatible and that early user reports indicate play is fairly smooth with clean, though perhaps not crystal clear graphic reproduction.
Gameloft’s N.O.V.A. 3 Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance ($6.99) is now available on the iOS App Store.
