Cricket prepaid iPhone launch a success

Apple’s drive to make the iPhone ubiquitous continues apace with yet another successful launch, but this time with a couple interesting twists. First of all, Cricket Wireless is a MVNO or a carrier without its own network and this one runs on Sprint.
The other twist is that Cricket is selling the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S on a prepaid basis, which offers big savings over traditional carrier pricing, up to $750 over the two-year lifetime of a contract savings. Get an iPhone 4 ($399.99) or iPhone 4S ($499.99) — higher than Verizon, AT&T and Sprint’s $99 and $199 subsidized pricing — and then pay just $55 a month for “unlimited” talk, text and data (throttled after 2.3GB).
That said, according to a PCMag writeup, Cricket experienced strong demand for prepaid iPhones and that’s a good thing.
“So far, customer activity has been brisk with customers waiting at the door as the stores opened,” said a Cricket spokesman.

Maybe not lined up all the way down the street, but folks were waiting nonetheless.
Another Sprint MVNO, Virgin Mobile USA, will begin offering the iPhone on a prepaid on Friday, June 22.
