Retina MacBook Pro: Three attached displays, 15.6 megapixels

Because they could and, assuming you have the money and time, you can, too. Although the details of the implementation can vary significantly, a prominent Mac upgrade seller put together a 15.6 megapixel Mac setup using a Retina MacBook Pro plus a pair of Thunderbolt iMacs and an HDMI LG monitor — that’s more than an eyeful.

Other World Computing has created a rather amazing setup to demonstrate a simple fact: the new 2012 MacBook Pro 15″ can run four displays at their native resolution:

• Retina on laptop @ “best for Retina”
• iMac used as a display @ 2560 x 1440 via Thunderbolt
• iMac used as a display @ 2560 x 1440 via Thunderbolt/DisplayPort
• LG monitor @ 1920 x 1200 via HDMI

According to OWC, all displays delivered smooth image and video simultaneously — I’m not doubting them, but would love to see a video showing exactly that…

What’s your take?

You math is off a bit:

    2880×1800 = 5,184,000
    2560*1440*2 = 7,372,800
    1920*1200 = 2,304,000
    = 14,860,000

Not quite 15.6 megapixel but still impressive.
