23 August 2012 3,078 views 2 Comments

Though NeoOffice appears to have outward modernity of OS X Tiger, developer Planamesa advertises that the current release is fully up-to-date with OS X Mountain Lion feature compatibility baked right in. Well, they must have put it somewhere.

Running OS X 10.8 and a need a cheap, full-featured Microsoft Office compatible productivity suite? Then NeoOffice 3.3 (features) should be at the top of your list of candidates:

New features:

• High resolution text drawing on Retina displays

• Compatible with Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and Gatekeeper
— Versions, Resume, Full-screen mode, native text highlighting

• New Cocoa code replaces Java
— Thought Java was long gone!

• Automatic installation of French, German, and Italian language packs

Not your daddy’s open source…

Before clicking, hover the cursor over for the download link moment — Download for Mac OS X 10.6 - 10.8 — and you will note that it appears to direct to a .dmg file. Actually, that’s a ruse as you will be taken to an verification page:

To download the NeoOffice-3.3-Intel.dmg file, please login so that we can verify that you have paid US$10 (or €7 or £6 or CA$10 or AU$10 or ¥834) or more within the last year.

Yup, in order to download NeoOffice, you must first pay $10 or be able to prove that payment has been made in the last year. “Donationware” they’re calling it.

Paying for software is cool. Little games on the way to cash register aren’t…

What’s your take?
