Just in time delivery, Jobs’ girlfriend to publish memoir

There is tacky and then there’s the announcement on October 4 — the day before the first anniversary of his passing — that Steve Jobs’ girlfriend Chrisann Brennan will pen a memoir. Among other things, the book will detail “Jobs’s enormous appeal, energy and drive as well as his developing ambition and ruthlessness in business and personal dealings.”

Or so goes the story as reported by the New York Times, which notes that St Martin’s Press has purchased the rights with the book expected to arrive — on or about October 5? — sometime in 2013.

Last year around the time of Jobs passing, Ms. Brennan wrote a bit for Rolling Stone that attracted little attention at the time, “At 17, Steve had more than a touch of the cool sophistication of a Beat poet. It is as if Beat poetry laid the future for technology in Steve.”

A bit obtuse and uninteresting as who among us knows what a “beat poet” is without first checking Wikipedia? Of course, if Brennan delivers “ambition and ruthlessness,” we will greedily read about the evil that Steve did.

That said, it will interesting to see what if anything Brennan chooses to share about her own less endearing traits, a fair number of which Isaacson touched upon in his Jobs bio.

Movie rights and/or Broadway play (Steve Jobs: The Musical)? Good, bad or just lingering meh, the canon of Jobs is about to grow…
