No Mac app is real until the first point update ships. So, if you have been holding off upgrading to Evernote 5, this is the day you have been waiting for — cool new features and the bug fixes that make them real.

Evernote 5 shipped earlier this month, delivering a new user interface, improved shortcuts, map integration and a whole bunch more. As always with major Mac app rewrites, there issues.

Evernote 5.0.1 (free, Mac App Store) is now available and deals with a fair number of those problems:

• Drag-and-drop Notes onto Notebooks and Tags in the Sidebar
• Added an option to show Note counts in the Sidebar
• Added a Trash button to the Note Editor
• Fixed Local Notebook creation
• Fixed “notebook:” and “tag:” searching
• Better high-DPI image handling in the Note Editor
• Reduced CPU/memory usage
• Various bug and localization fixes

Spend lots of time doing layout perhaps in multiple languages and/or highly technical topics? You need Ergonis’ PopChar X, which makes typing unusual characters easy. And, PopChar X 6.1 (release notes) is now available, which builds out features and squashes a few bugs for good measure:

• New Font Info view shows detailed information about the selected font.
• New custom tuning for more than 600 fonts, including the BeLight Font kit and some foreign language fonts.
• Background version checks now take place only when the computer has been idle for a while.
• PopChar now remembers the selected font across quit and relaunch.
• New custom font tuning for fixing the vertical positioning of certain non-standard fonts.
• Clickable hint helps with registration and license key orders when PopChar runs in trial mode.

Mac munge — the accumulation of deleted/used app detritus (prefs, dependent files, etc.) over time. Prevent munge with a professional grade utility — AppDelete 4.0.5 (release notes) is now available and mostly covers localization issues:

• Completed French, Italian, and Dutch translations
• Other various localization edits
• New preference to disable sound effects
• Bug fixes
