Need a DICOM viewer for Mac, iPad and/or iPhone? There is a free open source software DICOM viewer for Mac, though the iOS version will set you back a little. Either way, the app you need is OsiriX — it’s fast and easy-to-use.

So, you or a loved one has been through the medical ringer and, in addition to the bills, that has generated a bunch of image files — CAT scan, MRI, X-ray, etc. DICOM formatted files — you’d like to view on your Mac. Well, OsiriX 5.5.1 is the tool for the job and be downloaded here.

If the DICOM files have been burnt to a CD or DVD, OsiriX will automatically recognize the disk when it’s inserted and import the files — very nice.

That said, medical professionals looking for an FDA certified solution should go for OsiriX 64-bit, which costs a cool $599.
