A new version of MiniTV, which doesn't crash (YMMV), is now available and there's a lot to like about this Dashboard Widget

Back when MiniTV 1.0 came out, I downloaded, installed, tried to watch and it crashed, crashed, crashed and crashed again. MiniTV went in the trash as did the nascent blog post about it. Alas version 2.0, which doesn’t crash (YMMV), is now available and there’s a lot to like about this Dashboard Widget.

MiniTV 2.0 (free, download) promises and delivers “…International TV News Channels right from your Mac OS X Dashboard.” Assuming all of the feeds are within their respective viewer caps, you can watch BBC, CNN, euronews, Al Jazeera, C-SPAN, ABC News, UNTV, NASA TV, ARD, ZDF, N24, münch.tv, Deutsche Welle, DMAX, Journal 24, France 24, Russia Today, Deluxe Music, Worm TV Yavido and, believe it or not, MTV.

Of course, if you’re watching TV in OS X Dashboard, you’re not doing anything else. However, there is a silver lining in that audio continues to play after dismissing the Dashboard.

Additionally, you can watch in Mac’s your browser via OneTV popup player, though the station selection is greatly reduced.

All good? Well, mostly, both MiniTV and OneTV rely on Flash for playback. Nevertheless, it’s free as are the channels and I’m loving it…

What’s your take?
