Audiobook of the Month: Drop Dead Healthy
A.J. Jacobs bathes, nay, wallows in absurdity. Previously, the author celebrated humanity’s absolutist silliness in The Year of Living Biblically and attempted to become a genius of sorts in The Know-It-All. His latest attempt at radical “self improvement,” Drop Dead Healthy, the audiobook of the month, exposes the pratfalls of diet, exercise and obsessive self image.
First, he had to tackle the complicated web of diet and exercise, most of which is nonsensical, unproven and contradictory. Second, he had to consult a team of medical advisors. And, finally, he had to subject himself, over the course of two years, to a grueling regimen of exercises, a range of diets and nutritional plans, and a brutal array of techniques and practices to improve everything from his hearing to this sleep — all the while testing the patience of his wife.
Jacobs’ Drop Dead Healthy: One Man’s Humble Quest for Bodily Perfection is the audiobook of the month and available on iTunes for just $5.95. The iBooks version (i.e. text laid out on a blank background) can be had for just $11.95.
