Your shut down fix seems to confuse doing a hard reboot and a restart. You describe doing a hard reboot, i.e., hold down the home button and the sleep/wake buttons simultaneously, but then should say to continue holding them down until the iOS device powers off, keep holding them, and back on and until you see the Apple. Then you can let go. Otherwise, you could have merely held in the sleep/wake button until the slider “turn off” indicator appears at which time you slide it off. This powers it down. Then you restart it with the sleep/wake button by holding it in until you see something come up on the screen. The first way is a hard reboot, which is a good troubleshooting tool and resets a bunch of problems. The second is merely a turning off then back on of the device, which fixes some, but fewer problems. I’m really not sure what you described does, but I think is the same as merely turning off and on again. You don’t get the benefits of the reset unless you continue to hold down the two buttons through powering off and until you see the Apple again. At least that is my understanding and I don’t mean to be critical so please let me know, if I am wrong. Always learning…

Small nitpick. The multitask bar’s remove icon is a small red (-) minus sign. The (x) is for when you are deleting apps from the home screen.
