‘It Was Crap,’ Says Woz of jOBS Movie
Geeks absolutely love Steve Wozniak — he is the truth to power half of the dynamic duo that founded Apple. Although it is sometimes difficult to understood what Woz gets on about, his comments regarding the soon for public release jOBS movie leave little room for wonder.
“I was approached early on [for jOBS],” Woz told The Verge. “I read a script as far as I could stomach it and felt it was crap.”
And, for what it’s worth, Woz has taken a paid role in Sony’s upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, which will be based in some measure on Walter Isaacson’s biography.
The early script did things like promote drugs in ways that were as foreign as the clip I saw. For example, it would have Jobs offering me drugs. I never saw Jobs do drugs nor had any offers from him. If we ever discussed drugs, he would have known that I didn’t do them but that I basically approved of them and hung around with friends who did them (in college) so he wouldn’t have felt awkward talking about them with me. Frankly, we talked about our jobs and technology and things — Steve Wozniak via The Verge
OK, we get it. Woz is put off because Ashton Kutcher’s jOBS isn’t documentary enough and doesn’t deliver a pedantic rendering of the facts.
jOBS Movie: Entertaining crap or just crap?
People have made similar criticisms about Daniel Day Lewis in Lincoln — the movie and its onscreen characters clearly go off the rails vis-a-vis the capital “T” truth. Nevertheless, it is a really good movie.
Will jOBS be that good? Highly unlikely.
Nevertheless, the first publicly available jOBS clip is entertaining. If the rest of the movie is as compelling, people will be entertained, which is what celluloid manipulations of the “facts” are supposed to be, fun.
However cool, great and factually correct Woz is, I really hope jOBS is nonetheless fun and entertaining…
