For the last two years, give or take, Mac security issues have been almost entirely traceable to Java for Mac. How’s that going? The same as last week, last month and, sadly, last year. That said, quite naturally, if you are a Java user, it is time to update your copy of Java for Mac.

• Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 12, download
— Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 12 delivers improved security, reliability, and compatibility by updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_39.

• Oracle Java February 2013 Critical Patch, download
— Patches and fixes for more than 50 issues.
— For OS X 10.7.2 (Lion) and later

Lion and Mountain Lion users with Java installed, you can download Oracle’s by opening System Preferences > Java and click Update Now.

As you may have heard, Apple pushed a silent update to the integrated malware blocker in OS X 10.6.x and later which turned off Java — these updates allow use of Java once again.
