New iPhone Lockscreen Hack: Pwn iOS 6.1 [u]

Here we have a lockscreen hack that requires the user have physical access to the iPhone and only gives access to the phone function and contacts

After reading how this hack works, you will wonder (WTF!) how anyone managed to figure it out and, ultimately, why go to the bother. Here we have a lockscreen hack that requires the user have physical access to the iPhone and only provides the ability to use the phone function and see contacts.

Jailbreak Nation has published an iPhone lockscreen hack (workaround?) that can, your mileage may vary, give you access to the device’s phone and contact functions:

1. Lock device

2. Slide to unlock

3. Tap emergency call

4. Hold sleep button until the power down prompt shows. Click cancel, you will notice the status bar turn blue. Type in 911 or your emergency number and click call then cancel it asap so the call dosen’t go through.

5. Lock your device with the sleep button then turn it on using the home button.

6. Slide to unlock then hold the sleep button and in 3 seconds tap emergency call. This will spazz out the phone and cause it to open.

Again, imagine the person who discovered this iPhone lockscreen hack — a teenager, a lot of time and perhaps not a little Modafinil.

If you would rather not try this hack yourself, which also works on iOS 6.0.1 and 6.0.2, then check out how it’s done on YouTube.

[u] AllThingsD’s John Paczkowski cornered Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller and got a statement, “We are aware of this issue, and will deliver a fix in a future software update.”

And, in a week or perhaps two, the problem will be gone until the next time…

What’s your take?
