When the journey and the destination are equally important, the train is the way to travel. The Amtrak for iOS app has received a major update

For people that equate the journey and destination, the train is the way to travel. The Amtrak for iOS app, a great way to keep your travel plans on track, has received a major update. And, did you know that Arrive, the carrier’s on-board magazine, is available for iOS devices? Get both here.

Amtrak for iOS 1.5 (free) is now available and offers a completely redesigned Train Status feature. Additionally, the app is now iPhone 5 compatible and improvements have been made to Facebook integration (i.e. reduced notification alerts).

Amtrak’s eMagazine

Although it has been available on the App Store since August 2012, I got my first exposure to Arrive Magazine (free) came today — the US national passenger rail carrier’s onboard magazine (i.e. setback pouch).

The traditional glossy print layout works well on the iPad and is otherwise functional on the iPhone — content and layout are word for word the same. Stories run the gamut from route and destination attractions to generically appealing stories, like arts, culture and personal finance.

Although train travel isn’t on my immediate itinerary, I’m looking forward to a little train-related recreational reading this weekend…

And, you?
