Cool iPad Tricks: Background Listen to a Video Podcast

People gripe about iPad multitasking. Actually, they carp about the lack thereof. Here is a simple iPad trick that lets you background listen to video podcasts — keep working while you listen. Cool stuff.
This tip works with Apple’s oft maligned Podcasts app and perhaps other video playback apps. Start playing the video you’d like to listen to and either quit the app or navigate to another app — playback will dutifully stop.
However, there is a work around — double tap the home button (four-finger swipe up) to bring up the multitasking toolbar and swipe that to the right and tap the play button (image above).

That said, you can take this feature to the next level, and skip a trip to the multitasking toolbar, by matching your iPad will a keyboad case. My weapon of choice is the ZAGGfolio Keyboard Case (Amazon, $85).
