In a twist of fate, Telestream's Flip4Mac has on the whole delivered even as the Windows Media platform fades toward irrelevance.

When Microsoft farmed out Windows Media codec and player for Mac development to Telestream, lots of folks (et moi) believed it wouldn’t be long before the fairer platform was completely deprecated. In a twist of fate, Telestream’s Flip4Mac has on the whole delivered even as the Windows Media platform fades toward irrelevance.

• Flip4Mac 3.2 (download)
— New in-app stores purchasing (pro version)
— Dramatically improved the loading time for ASF files (.wmv, .wma, .wm, .wmp, .asf, etc.)
— Legacy Flip4Mac versions for OS X 10.4 ~ 10.6

Flip4Mac, is the official Windows Media player on the Mac – supported and hosted by Microsoft. Only Flip4Mac combines the best of a system wide QuickTime integration with Web browser support and a standalone video player application.

Though it gets used only rarely, I have installed Flip4Mac — it’s convenient and seems to be quite stable.
