iTunes Podcasts Now on Roku

One of the great things about having a Roku is that new channels regularly appear and there is never a bill. Yes, you can pay for Hulu Plus, Netflix and others, but the free stuff just keeps coming — there’s now an iTunes Podcasts channel that’s veritably bursting narrowcast goodness.

About a month ago, PBS and PBS Kids came to the Roku, and it is good — NOVA, Electric Company, Need to Know, Word Girl, Nature, The Joy of Painting and scores of other programs there to enjoy.

Now, according to the RokuGuide, the iTunes Podcasts channel is now available on Roku, though the selection is far from encyclopedic.

For example, TWiT’s Know How is available, but many other TWiT shows, like Tech New Today, apparently aren’t. However, in this particular instance, that’s not a problem because there’s a TWiT plugin for the Plex Media Server.

That said, the iTunes Podcasts channel is new and perhaps additional shows/networks will be added with time and, in the here and now, there are more than 100 shows/podcasts available, including likes of Comedy Central Sword & Laser.

Whether what we see is what we get or more is coming, Roku owners will nonetheless welcome the additional content…
