VLC for Mac is a must-have app — free, open source and plays almost anything you can throw at it streamed audio that QuickTime/iTunes can't handle

VideoLAN’s VLC Mac is a must-have app — free, open source and plays almost anything you can throw at it. Part of the attraction is the ability to stream audio that QuickTime/iTunes can’t handle, as well as the regular VLC Mac updates.

• VLC Mac 2.0.8 (download)
— A small update that fixes some regressions of the 2.0.x branch of VLC
— Fixes numerous crashes and dangerous behaviors
— Also fixes ISDB-S tunning and some OSX issues

[u] As noted by commentator “Allen” below, the download link isn’t function. See the comments for more.

Though not all are used daily, my open source toolkit includes Adium, ClamXav, CyberDuck, Electric Sheep (screensaver), Firefox, HandBrake, LibreOffice, Picasa, SeaMonkey and Transmission — what open source apps do you use?
