These things happen. This time ’round, however, it’s scheduled maintenance and Apple has pre-announced that the Apple Developer Website and the associated services will go dark for an unspecified period starting at 6pm today.

Scheduled Downtime on August 17

Dear Developer,

We want to let you know that the site will be undergoing a brief scheduled maintenance on Saturday, August 17th at 6pm PDT (9pm EST). During this time the developer website and developer program services will be offline.

Best regards,

Apple Developer Program Support

[u] It appears the Apple Developer Website crew has successfully completed their work.

Back on July 17, the Apple Developer Website was taken offline after getting hacked. The site and its associated services slowly came back online with full restoration after nearly three weeks on August 10.

Throughout Apple claimed that no sensitive developer data was compromised and said the extended outage was required to insure the site wouldn’t be (so easily and thoroughly?) hacked again in the future.

Think of this scheduled outage as the point-zero-one update following the just completed major overhaul…

What’s your take?
