Whereas this latest interim OS X 10.8.5 update is opaque vis-a-vis changes, details about Safari 6.1 are now known.

Must have been the third day of week, because Apple delivered a fresh OS X 10.8.5 beta, 12F33, as well as fifth seeds of Safari 6.1 for Mountain Lion and Lion. Whereas this latest interim Mountain Lion update is essentially opaque vis-a-vis any changes, details about Safari 6.1, notably the differences between the Lion and Mountain Lion version, are now known.

OS X 10.8.5 12F33? No known issues and the same tester focus areas — Wi-Fi, Graphics, Wake from Sleep, PDF viewing and Accessibility, and Mobile Device Management. Beyond that, Apple isn’t saying.

Previously, the Fairer Platform published the Safari 6.1 release notes and it’s worth noting the difference between the Lion and Mountain Lion versions of Apple’s default browser.

Fundamentally, many of the headline features in Safari 6.1 for ML — Safari Sidebar, Shared Links, Continuous Reading,, iCloud Tabs autocomplete and Easy Retweet — aren’t present in Safari 6.1 for Lion. One notable new feature in the Lion version is Safari Power Saver, a killer feature brings native, site-by-site, page-by-page Flash plugin blocking to Safari.

Also present in Safari 6.1 for Lion are Redesigned Top Sites, third-party data blocking and faster JavaScript.
