And, there was much rejoicing. Yes, Apple has released a Mail 7 update that addresses problem's with Gmail + IMAP.

And, there was much rejoicing, though Sir Robin’s minstrels are reportedly still at large. Yes, Apple has released a Mail 7 update that addresses problem’s with Gmail + IMAP, as well as other issues.

Although Apple’s has been getting grief for Mail 7’s Gmail problems, the real cause lies with Gmail itself, which uses an unholy, nonstandard implementation of IMAP — Google needs to address this problem.

• Mail Update for Mavericks (download)
— Fixes Gmail issue that prevents deleting, moving, archiving messages for users w/ custom settings
— Addresses an issue that may cause unread counts to be inaccurate
— Includes additional fixes that improve the compatibility and stability of Mail
— Requires OS X 10.9

After installing the Mail 7 update, Mail will report that version 7.0 installed. However, it does get a new build number — was 1816, is now 1822.

For what it’s worth, I had been running the developer gold master and the Mac App Store’s Software Update function didn’t display Mail Update for Mavericks. Moreover, downloading and then manually attempting to install Mail Update resulted in an error.

The work around? Install the public release version (13A603) of OS X Mavericks — go get it (free) — available on the Mac App Store.

And, this just in, Robin’s minstrels have been consumed
