OS X 10.9.2 [13C53] Beta 5: Right About…

OK, stick another fork in Apple’s second Mavericks update. The mothership has seeded OS X 10.9.2 [13C54], the fifth beta to date and the third developer release in as many weeks. Surely, it must be done now.

This Mavericks update may indeed be fork tender, but don’t call me “Shirley.” In fact, you can call me anything, but don’t call me late for martinis.

About a week ago, Fairer Platform said it was time to stick a Fork in OS X 10.9.2 ’cause ’twas done. Well, not quite.

Apple has seeded three Mavericks update developer betas in three weeks, which is sure sign a.) of the apocalypse or b.) OS X 10.9.2 is just about ready to ship.

What’s coming…

As with previous developer seeds, Apple is asking folks to focus their testing on Mail, Messages, Graphic Drivers, VoiceOver, VPN and FaceTime Audio.

Of those things, FaceTime Audio calling is a new feature, which is available within FaceTime and Messages. Another new feature is the ability to block people in both FaceTime and Messages.

On the bug fix side, Mavericks Mail’s well documented issues with Gmail IMAP are getting attention. So, too, are graphics drivers — updated drivers in OS X 10.9.2 — and VPN.

Safari 7.0.2 and Mail 7.2 are bundled with OS X 10.9.2 and are thought to contain security patches and bug fixes only — no new features.

As with all beta software, features, fixes and functionality can differ significantly from final code. Mileage could vary significantly between the betas and the publicly released version of OS X 10.9.2.

If past is prologue, I will be wrong again. Otherwise, Apple could deliver OS X 10.9.2 this week.

OS X 10.9.2 is available to registered Mac devs on the Apple Developer Website.
