FirstTech’s Last Day: Apple’s First Mac Reseller Closing

28 March 2014 65 views No Comment

Even as Cupertino's own brink and mortar Apple Stores blossom, the world's first Mac reseller — Minneapolis' FirstTech — has closed after 37 years.

Apple’s still surging success hasn’t been great for everyone. While Cupertino’s own brink and mortar Apple Stores continue to blossom, the world’s first authorized Mac reseller — Minneapolis’ FirstTech — closed after 37 years on March 29.

That’s the tale told by the Pioneer Press, which recounts some of the successes and ultimately sadness that marked FirstTech’s history.

“The person who bought that first Apple II also bought our first Lisa (computer) and our first Macintosh,” said FirstTech’s product manager Fred Evans. “To this day, he is still our customer.”

And, FirstTech was Apple’s first authorized Mac reseller. However, as time eventually wrecks every retailer, and wounds all heels, FirstTech succumbed to market forces, including five Apple Stores in the Minneapolis market.

FirstTech obviously put up a good fight. Nevertheless, it’s time say goodbye to yet not just another Mac reseller, but the first Mac reseller.

C’est la vie, c’est la guerre…
