As FirstTech Fades, Mad Macs Adds Another Store
The only certainties in life are taxes and Apple doom. Which is to say that all news about Apple is bad news, one way or another. But not really. For example, as we mark the passing of the world’s first Mac reseller in the MidWest, another Apple authorized retailer opened it second store in faraway Massachusetts.
Of course, the first authorized Mac reseller was FirstTech of Minneapolis, MN and they closed their doors for the last time on March 29. However, just a few days later on April 1, Mad Macs in Western Massachusetts opened its second location.
“The Williams market bodes well for us,” said Mad Macs co-owner Scott Kirchner. “There’s an especially high concentration of Apple usage between the students and faculty at Williams [College].”
And, as we all know, Apple does very, very well among rich educated people.
Also in Mad Macs favor is that fact that the populations of Williamstown and its namesake college together total a bit North of 10,000. So, it’s a fair bet that Mad Macs will never have to compete directly with an Apple Store.
Is the future bright for third-party Mac resellers or is Mad Macs a rare exception…
