Simply Mac: This Is GameStop Pivoting Hard

Simply Mac stores are bright, attractive and the employees look like someone cares. Still early days, yes, but impressive nonetheless…

GameStop, the game retailer, is trimming 100-plus stores this year, but will continue to operate more than 6,000 location. Nevertheless, gaming isn’t what it used to be and the company is already investing big in smartphone retail and Apple authorized resale.

Surprised? Me, too.

GameStop purchased Spring Mobile, an AT&T wireless retail licensee, and Simply Mac, which is a new and rapidly growing Apple authorized reseller. On the smartphone side, Spring Mobile hopes to add from 300 to 400 new outlets to its existing 400 store network.

Simply Mac has 23 stores in the MidWest and InterMountain West of the US. By the end of 2015, the chain hopes to open an additional 50 stores.

And, yes, Simply Mac stores are bright, attractive and the employees look like someone cares. Still early days, yes, but impressive nonetheless.

Are there any Fairer Platform readers with Simply Mac experiences to share? Sound off in the comments below…
