“Are you getting it?” The rest of us got it right away. Though it lacked GPS, MMS, 3G cellular, copy/paste, the original iPhone was nevertheless so different, so superior that it blew everything else out of the water.

Product itself was matched by Steve Jobs now legendary public unveiling:

“An iPod, a phone and an internet communicator…”

That was at Macworld in January and the original iPhone shipped on June 29, 2007 to very large, expectant crowds in New York City, San Francisco and other major cities.

After years of suffering with various Blackberry, Nokia, Palm, Windows Mobile, etc devices, the iPhone reset expectations — hardware, software, user experience — in one fell swoop.

However, it didn’t take long for all of this to become passé.

Nevertheless, it’s good to remember the original iPhone — Steve Jobs Macworld introduction, the crowds, the excitement and how things have been forever changed

Happy 7th Birthday to the original iPhone…
