Mid 2014 Mac mini: Coming Soon?
Apple last updated its entry-level headless desktop Mac in October 2012. Needless to say, an update is overdue. However, given that the middle of the year won’t last forever, you have got to wonder when Apple plans to release the Mid 2014 Mac mini revealed in a recently updated Apple Support Article.
So, are you wondering about Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems? Me neither, but that is where an eagle eyed Mac fan spied a lone reference to the Mid 2014 Mac mini.
Considering that Intel’s planned 2014 chip update, Broadwell, won’t be arriving until 2015, it seems safe to assume that the Mid 2014 Mac mini would be built around last year’s Haswell. Given that Apple has already released 2014 MacBook Air and 2014 iMac updates that are mere Haswell speed bumps.
Given that we haven’t had Mac mini bump since 2012, a Haswell freshened Mid 2014 Mac mini + Intel Iris Graphics would be just fine by most folks. Perhaps none more so than the people who run server farms (image above), which buy Mac minis by the truckload.
In fact, the server crowd would love Haswell Mac mini because Haswell is just so energy efficient and cool…
Waiting for the 2014 Mac mini? What features are you most hoping to see?
