Bill Gates vs Tim Cook in Ice Bucket Challenge Battle Royale
Are you a celebrity tech icon hoping for a little, maybe even a lot of free publicity that, happily enough, also shows how good hearted you are? Yeah, there is a lot of that going around and two of the biggest ice bucket hams turn out to be Microsoft’s Bill Gates and Apple’s Tim Cook.
Is it even really a choice? Take a bucket of ice over the head or donate $100 to ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Research, which really turns out to be a bucket of ice AND $100, which sounds like a really bad ideal. Seriously, take my Benjamin and keep your ice.
Ice Bucket: Bill Gates
Did Bill actually plan and build the contraption? Meh, he’s got people, but he certainly get points for coming up with something geeky and the setting, his private dock, is worth a few kudos.
Ice Bucket: Tim Cook
Tim Cook did the deed in front of hundreds of minions who, if they chose to donate to ALS, could get a matching grant from Apple. Good deal, Tim, and you just keep promoting Apple as human endeavor designed to improve the human condition.
Seriously, there is more to business, especially when you’re doing it right, than “simply” making money.
So, who wins the Bill Gates vs Tim Cook ice bucket challenge battle? Personally, I prefer Gates’ geeky solo effort to Cook’s public cold comeuppance…
What’s your take?
