Apple is now offering a new build to order (BTO) option for the Mac Pro, which is perhaps in response to recent criticisms in the press and by users that quad core Late 2009 iMacs provide superior value.
Yes, you did read that right—the 3.33GHz quad core option does cost an additional 1,200 freaking dollars. So, for the same money as the base configuration 3.33GHz with no additional memory let alone a monitor, you could buy three new Core 2 Duo iMacs with integrated 21.5 inch displays.
Or, how about four refurbished 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo iMacs for roughly the same money?
Apple should have shifted their whole single-processor line up one notch and offered the 3.33GHz model as the +$400 option…
