Review: Star Trek Comics for iPhone, iPad
This isn’t new, but it’s been newly updated and the creator, IDW Publishing, says it’s not only ready for your iPhone or iPod touch, but also the iPad.
Star Trek Comics 1.5 (iTunes, free) for the iPhone and iPod touch is available now and comes with three free comics. Further, if you’ve got an iPad, this app will run on your new Apple tablet with full page viewing of all of your books — IDW offers more than 40 comics for the platform.
This iPhone app is simplicity itself and speaks well for the future of comics on iPhone OS devices. This is especially true of the IDW’s in-app comic store with is easy-to-use and, frankly, quite fast.
From tapping one of the free titles to viewing it on my iPod touch took a matter of seconds.
Well worth the Trek
Also, although IDW hints that the free and new titles have been formatted for the iPad, they don’t specifically say whether or not all comics have been tweaked for the 9.7-inch display on Apple’s latest creation. The company does state, however, that all titles will transfer and display on the iPad.
Thereupon, the titles available for sale are priced at either $0.99 or $1.99, though the iTunes Stores seems to be well short of the 40 comics IDW says are available.
All-in-all, Star Trek comics is a simple, yet intuitively well designed app. It’s free and the three freebies are well worth your time (See also: Star Trek Comics for iPad update brewing).
