XScreenSaver for Mac: Installer Added, Update Checking, Feature Tweaks

9 December 2013 28 views No Comment

Looking for a wide variety of Mac screensavers? XScreenSaver delivers several hundred (really, several hundred) and they now come wrapped in a nifty catch-all installer. While developer Jamie Zawinski et al added the installer in the previous update, this particular point release offers additional new functionality, like automatic update checking and improved Flickr, Google and Instagram support.

XScreenSaver for Mac 5.24 (download)
— Added “Automatically check for updates” option on OS X
— Updated feed-loading for recent Flickr changes
— Updated webcollage for recent Google changes
— Added Instagram and Bing as webcollage image sources
— Updated to latest autoconf
— Bug fixes

For what it’s worth, XScreenSaver 5.1.9 includes updates for OS X 10.8. In my experience, and you’re mileage could vary, screensavers compatible with Mountain Lion also work in Mavericks.

XScreenSaver is also available for iPhone and iPad (free). Why? Turn on music and/or internet radio, and then turn on XScreenSaver for some visuals — it’s free and in some ways better than the Mac version.
