Something must be going on, eh? Roughly the same information coming from the “big three” of Apple rumorology — 9 to 5 Mac, AppleInsider and MacRumors, as well as new kid Jack March — all on the same day. Tim Cook et al are expected to introduce if not immediately ship 27-inch Retina iMacs at next month’s iPad + Mac Apple Event.
Here’s the nut of what they’re schlepping:
A source familiar with Apple’s plans tells me that Apple is indeed planning to launch a Retina iMac at their next press event, however the 27″ Model will be the only model that gets this feature. The source says the new 27″ iMac will use a 5120 x 2880 panel as leaked in the OSX Yosemite code a few months ago. This resolution is double the current resolution of the 27″ iMac which is 2560×1440.
Given that Intel’s Broadwell chips won’t arrive en masse until next year, these 27-inch Retina iMacs will be built with Haswell chips inside. It is expected that Retina iMacs will use AMD (aka ATI) graphics chips.
The physical styling and port configuration of the new Retina iMacs will be the same as current models. Apple’s 21-inch iMac will continue to offer 1920 x 1080 displays.
These Apple rumorologists + Jack also continue signaling the long-rumored 12-inch MacBook Air with Retina display is still on the cards for October…
Sound believable to you?
