Some people love predictive text yet others hardly noticed its arrival with iOS 8 and QuickType last Fall. Still, there are those that hate, haTE, HATE predictive text. Here is how to turn on/off predictive text aka QuickType suggestions nee autocorrect.
Here are two methods for toggling, both temporary and permanent, iOS 8 QuickType predictive text on and off.
Apple’s iOS 8 QuickType description includes a simple method of temporarily turning predictive text off. With the predictive text suggestion bar visible, in one motion, simply tap the bar and swipe downward.
As evidenced by the white grab handle, the predictive text suggestion bar is still there, waiting to be pulled up and back into view.
To long-term disable QuickType predictive text suggestions, go to Settings > General > Keyboard and turn off the “Predictive” switch. Obviously, flipping the switch in the other direction brings autocorrect back.
To see predictive text status, tap and hold the keyboard key.
