iTunes visualizers were, once upon a time, a big deal, a real selling point for both iTunes and the Mac. While some vendors, notably the ever excellent Sound Spectrum, still deliver new and updated products, iTunes visualizers development has definitely seen better days.
Nevertheless, there are still plenty of excellent free iTunes visualizers available.
• LED Spectrum Analyzer (download)
— A spectrum analyser display in the style of a typical hi-fi system, using bargraph displays that emulate LEDs or similar electronic display technology

— This classic iTunes visualizer is now fully compatible with iTunes 11
• Jacket (download)
— A very basic visualizer that display album cover art
— Back in 2011, when iTunes left 32-bit behind, Jacket was the first iTunes visualizer plugin to go 64-bit

— A very basic visualizer that display album cover art
• Cubism (download)
— Simple, colorful, fun and (slightly) useful for visualizing music in iTunes
• Fountain (download)
— This visualizer only works in iTunes 32-bit mode
• Wow Labs Visualizers
— Wow Labs hasn’t actively developed their various iTunes visualizers for several years
— Some of the 11 available visualizers work well, like Dragon, while others either don’t work at all (aqua flow) or only partially (one day)
iTunes Visualizers: The Gold Standard Is Sound Spectrum
All hail Andy O’Meara, the guy who started Sound Spectrum back in 2000. Whether you just roll with the free (limited functionality) versions of these truly excellent iTunes visualizers or pay for an enhanced version, you can’t go wrong with Sound Spectrum iTunes visualizers.
