Star Trek App: Get ‘Into Darkness’ Onto Your iPhone
Star Trek Into Darkness arrives in theaters on Friday, May 17, 2013 — an almost interminable wait. In the meantime, sate your inner Trekkie with the Star Trek App, which is now available just for the asking on Apple’s App Store.
Leading up to the film’s release, you’ll take part in scavenger hunt missions that include finding Star Trek content in the real world like photographing an outdoor billboard or using sound recognition technology while watching the latest trailer. By successfully completing these missions, you’ll gain access to all exclusive materials, videos & content first!
The first thing you will see when you launch Star Trek App (free) on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad (2X mode) running iOS 5.0 or later is an invitation to buy tickets for “sneak shows,” a commercial come on powered by Fandango.
After that there is a range of standard feature film app fare, including news, photos, articles, trailers, interviews (with preroll), clips (with preroll) and, yes, the “sweeps” or sweepstakes, which are all about getting fans excited and building buzz.
Star Trek App: Think Commerce
The low hanging “sweeps” stuff is registering via Facebook, Twitter and/or email to win premier tickets. There are also the missions where users can use their iThings to capture audio and photos or Into Darkness marketing (i.e. billboards, TV ads, etc.).
Complete more missions and you get more points, increasing your chances of winning.
The catches? The Star Trek App needs to turn on advanced iOS features (i.e. GPS, audio recognition, camera, etc.) before you can fulfill the missions.
An insane invasion of privacy? Meh, the Star Trek App is free and fun, so just dig in and enjoy…
What’s your take?
